Each and every Monday night, I pretty much have the same schedule. Now it isn’t a popular one with Kelli, my girlfriend, but I have had this routine for a long while.
WWE’s Monday Night RAW is the longest running weekly episodic show in the history of TV! I love it! Wrestling has been a part of my life ever since I was like 13. My favorite wrestlers growing up were the likes of Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, Mr. Perfect, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, Bret “The Hit Man” Hart and the list goes on and on. When I was in high school, it was The Rock, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Triple H. I could go on for days, but I won’t. Now, let me be clear, I know that wrestling is fake so stop telling me because I watch it for storylines and comedy. It is funny, not all the time, but it has comedy and I like that on top of watching dudes hit each other with chairs and jumping off 20ft ladders onto concrete.
So I thought, why not write to you guys the WYCD Universe and give a weekly review of wrestling. I know for a FACT, that there are a lot of listeners out there that watch wrestling just like me and I wanna give you the forum to discuss what you think of RAW and iMPACT. Tell me what you think of the storylines and what you would do differently if you were a writer for the WWE or TNA.
It is an eventful week this for the WWE because they Wrestlemania 26 this Sunday. Wrestlemania is the Super Bowl for the sports entertainment business. celebrities and tons of people gather to watch what wrestlers work towards all year. The week leading up to Wrestlemania 26 is just as elaborate as the event itself. They have charity pro-am golf outings, WWE Axxess, which gives fans an up close and personal experience with all their favorite WWE Superstars. Then the night before, they have the WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where WWE Superstars of today and yesterday come together to honor those who have paved the way to make wrestling what it is today. The big show is on Sunday, live on pay per view, and the matches this year are awesome to say the least. John Cena vs Batista for the WWE Title, Edge vs Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Title, 10 man Money in the Bank match, Legacy vs Randy Orton in a Triple Threat match, Triple H vs Sheamus, CM Punk vs Rey Mysterio, ShowMiz vs John Morrison & R-Truth for the Unified Tag Team Titles and Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker. The Undertaker is 17-0 in Wrestlemania and he puts that streak on the line against Shawn Michael’s 25 year career, if Shawn loses, it is over. Finally, Bret Hart vs The Chairman of the WWE, Vince McMahon in a No Holds Barred Match! It doesn’t get any better!
Last night on RAW there were some good matches leading into Wrestlemania. I start with John Morrison versus The Miz, it was a good match. They did a great job beating each other up and what was even more entertaining was, Morrison’s tag team partner, R-Truth and The Big Show, tag team partner to The Miz. Morrison got the victory and good momentum going into Sunday. Next, Kofi Kingston vs Vladimir Kozlov for the final spot in the 10 man Money in the Bank ladder match. Kofi wins and is on his way to Wrestlemania. Legacy and Sheamus vs Randy Orton and Triple H in a 3 on 2 handicap tag match is up next and it was a good match until Sheamus hit a running kick to the side of Randy Orton’s head and picked up the win. Every Monday RAW has a special guest host who calls the shots and this week it is Baseball player Pete Rose. Pete has some history with the WWE’s . He was involved in some storylines in the 90’s and got beat down in a chicken costume. Pete wants a no DQ or Countout Match with, Shawn Michaels vs Kane. This was a great match. During the fight The Undetaker appeared and chokeslams Shawn, giving Kane and opportunity to pin, but is unsuccessful. After a commercial break we come back and Shawn and Kane are beating the hell out of each other and as Kane goes for a Tombstone Piledriver, Shawn counters and hit with Sweet Chin Music (superkick to the chin) for the win. After that is a Diva’s match at which this point I go get a drink and browse the fridge for a snack. I come back and it’s time for John Cena to have a face-off with Batista. Batista is surrounded by security and they go back and forth until one jumps one and mayhem breaks lose and then we are done with RAW. All in all, it was a good build to Wrestlemania and I can’t wait.
While RAW was on, I did flip over to TNA to see what was happening on iMPACT, but to be honest, I could care less. Hulk Hogan is there now running stuff and that is cool, Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam being there is cool too, but I haven’t watched enough to give you an opinion on it.
