Law & Order is one of the longest running shows on TV and is also one of my favorites. I have seen every episode, seriously it’s on TNT all day. Now I learn today, that one of longest running characters is leaving. Even though I am sad, I can’t say that I am surprised.
Law & Order’s S. Epatha Merkerson is leaving the long running NBC crime drama. The actress, who has played Lieutenant Van Buren for 16 years, felt it was time. “It’s a graceful way to go,” she told EW.com. “It’s the end of my contract this year, and the storyline has been so perfect. I’ve given it my best for 16 years. It’s time to move on. I’m doing other things and this will be a great way to leave what has been an extraordinary gig.”
In other Law & Order news, On January 10, 2010, NBC programming chief Angela Bromstad announced at the winter TCA Press Tour that the network is in talks with Dick Wolf about introducing Law & Order: Los Angeles to television. NBC producers are currently working on hiring writers for a pilot. This would be the second Law & Order series in the franchise (the first being Law & Order: UK to travel outside New York and the sixth Law & Order-titled series to be created.) Law & Order: UK, named Law & Order: London in early reports, received its debut airing on February 23, 2009, on one of Britain’s main commercial networks ITV.
