keyandwy family opt Should Parents Give Christmas Gifts To Adult Children?

Linda Lee's Immediate Family

Now that I am grown and have children of my own, I tell my Mom, ‘you don’t need to get us anything Mom, Christmas is for the kids!’ Does she listen? NO… she buys gifts for ALL 7 of her kids, and 19 grandchildren too! Where exactly do you draw the line with ‘gift giving?’

So where do YOU draw the line when it comes to ‘gift giving?’ Do you buy gifts for all your grown kids and grandkids, and friends, hairdresser, mailman, news carrier, etc.? Where do you draw the line?

I have 5 children, 17 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren (& that’s not counting their mates). I cannot afford to “do” Christmas! I’ve forsaken the Christmas tradition of gifts for approximately 6 or 7 years. For the first few years, I felt so guilty, but I got over it. I do birthdays, graduations, family bar-be-ques & I go to the iddy-bitty & toddler birthday parties (kicking & screaming)! I do the entire Christmas and entire Easter dinners. BUT I DRAW THE LINE @ CHRISTMAS!!! Christmas Eve is at my house. I order some exotic pizzas, some sandwich trays & drinks. I make a basket of fruit for each household and we play some games (all before 9 p.m.) That’s so they have time to get the little rugrats to bed before Santa arrives. Whew! Then, the best part of the holiday. I’m satisfied that all of mine know that the family matriarch loves them & respects their desire to lavish this special day with their immediate family! WYCD has been my absolute favorite station for many years. Keep up the good work & the very best of holiday wishes to you all!!

WOW Theresa! With such a large family, it seems you have found a GREAT way to celebrate, without ‘breaking the bank’, yet still so special and nice for ALL your kids and their families! I feel sorry for those who believe they ‘have to buy gifts’ for everyone, as that is not really what Christmas is all about anyway! God bless you and your family and Merry Christmas!! Love, Linda Lee
