garth brooks 13 Garth Goes For Five Tonight

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Garth Brooks[/lastfm] will play the fifth of his nine, sold-out flood relief concerts at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena tonight. All proceeds from the shows will benefit the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in support of those affected by the May floods.

At a press conference in Nashville last week, Brooks talked about his anticipation of his performances, and how much he relies on his audiences to really help make his shows the best they can be.

On the heels of tonight’s concert, the remainder of Brooks’ shows are tomorrow and Wednesday with two performances both nights.

The reviews are in and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Garth Brooks[/lastfm]’ first show for Nashville Flood relief Thursday night lived up to his fans’ most ardent expectations from the moment he took the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. CMT reports that while Brooks didn’t swing from a rope or smash his guitar, Garth 2010 was “pretty much like Garth 1990 – bursting with energy, effusive in his praise of the audience and in complete control of the situation.” The crowd was on its feet cheering throughout the whole show. Brooks told the crowd, “Oh, I have missed you guys so much. Thank you for letting me come home to the great state of Tennessee.” He played hit after hit for two hours, which included special guest appearances by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Steve Wariner[/lastfm] (“Longneck Bottle,” “Some Fool’s Never Learn”) and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Trisha Yearwood[/lastfm] (“In Another’s Eyes,” “She’s In Love With The Boy,” “More Than A Memory”). Other highlights included a video montage of flood recovery photos during “We Shall Be Free.” Film crews taped the event, which will be broadcast later to military bases worldwide.

As more shows continued over the weekend, the Toys For Tots concert donations got a super-size boost! Yesterday, NFL alum Ray Carolin donated over 14,000 toys to Toys for Tots in front of Bridgestone Arena. After Garth asked for his help with the toy drive, Ray called the CEO’s of a number of children’s toy and sporting goods companies, and Spalding Sporting Goods, a division of Fruit of the Loom answered his call for a Christmas miracle. The special delivery made it to the U.S. Marines just in time for Christmas!
