The world has just been turned upside down! OK, maybe not, but the music world has been. After a “long, hard look,” next year’s Grammy’s will have a lightened load that may give us a battle between husband and wife with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Miranda Lambert[/lastfm] v. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Blake Shelton[/lastfm]!
According to AOL’s The Boot, the Grammy’s will over go a major overhaul for this year. Overall, 31 categories are being dropped, giving country music only 4 categories instead of seven. The 4 categories will be : Best Country Solo Performance, Best Country Duo/Group Performance, Best Country Song and Best Country Album.
The CEO of Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, told Billboard:
“I think the positive side is we’ve taken a good, serious look at what we’re doing,” Recording Academy president/CEO Neil Portnow tells Billboard of the move from 109 to 78 awards. “We contemporized it, we organized it and we visioned it in a way that will suit us going into the future. In other words, if you just continue business as usual, at some point, typically, you’re going to hit some sort of a pothole in the road.”
Another rule they brought in is the fact they there must be 40 “distinct artists entries” for a category to be considered. If not, the category goes on “hiatus” and there will be no award. Find out what the plan is with that at TheBoot.com!
