Don’t cry for Pia, she’s landed a record deal!
Ordinary American Idol fans weren’t the only ones shocked by Thursday’s elimination of 22-year-old Pia Toscano. “Don’t have an Idol habit, but how could the USA vote Pia off?,” tweeted two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks. “I may be done for the season.” Added Ashton Kutcher, “Who are the people that vote on American Idol? That’s just crazy! That Pia girl is dope. (It’s) almost criminal.” And two former Idol contestants, both of whom were voted off early but went on to have huge careers, are equally surprised by Pia’s departure. “I cannot believe they just eliminated Pia? Really,” Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson wrote. “As long as she walked away with that voice she will be alright! Just hate to see talent like that go.” Added Chris Daughtry, “What the crap? I thought Pia was THE best singer on the show this year.” Meanwhile, there’s no reason to be crying for Pia. Less than 24 hours after being eliminated from Idol, the 22-year-old New Yorker scored a record deal with Interscope Records, which just happens to be run by Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine.
