WYCD Downtown Hoedown artists, Megan and Joshua of[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Steel Magnolia[/lastfm] love interacting with their fans and making sweet music together…even if it isn’t their own music! Thanks to a fan contest, they have a new weekly way to share both loves, called “Steeling The Covers” where they do their own cover of that week’s #1 pop song on the charts. Last week it was [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Katy Perry[/lastfm]’s “E.T.” and they share their version with us too!
After enlisting the help of their fans to name the new series, the winner came up with the very clever name: ‘Steeling the Covers.’
Steel Magnolia told AOL’s The Boot:
“We like to interact with the fans as much as we can,” Joshua explains. “It’s cool for the fans to be apart of everything we do. It gives them ownership and it gives us a chance to reach out to them and have more open dialog and get to know them better. We get to see what they think.” Megan says, “What we’ve decided is that we’re going to do the No. 1 song on the pop chart each week, this allows us to be very creative, because we have to make it work for us.”
Talking about this week’s cover of Katy Perry’s “E.T.”, “That song is very robotic and produced, while we’re trying to make things work just with the guitar and us.”
