It seems like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eminem[/lastfm] has lived a life on controversy. From early on, it seemed like he was in trouble with the law, but it seemed as if he had turned his life around. Eminem is in the news again because of a pending lawsuit, but he is on the right side of the deal this time!
Eminem hit it big recently with an ad he did with Chrysler for the Chrysler 200 for this past Superbowl. But according to Yahoo, Seems like another car company took the lead from Chrysler and attempted to use an Eminem song in a recent ad, but without permission from the Detroit Rapper. A spokesperson from Eminem’s publishing company said:
“We believe Audi not only used ‘Lose Yourself’ to sell their product without permission, but their spot actually feels inspired by elements of Chrysler’s commercial campaign…”
Now, there is no doubt they didn’t ask permission to use “Lose Yourself” in this new ad, but a spokesperson for Audi tried to give their reason why they think everything will be ok for them:
“The video referred to is not an advertisement,” he said via email. “Also, this does not involve Audi of America. The video was not shown here in the U.S.”
Now, they don’t use any lyrics from the song, but they use enough of the main beat to realize what was going on. Do you think it is ok for them to do this?
