[photogallerylink id=92612 align=right]If you are celebrating our Independence this 4th of July weekend and waving the Red, White and Blue, we have pooled our Top 10 Star Spangled songs to help you celebrate and appreciate what that good Ol’ Glory Flag stands for!

Thought it most relevant to start out with Johnny Cash and that “Ragged Old Flag.”  “I thank God for all the freedoms we have in this country, I cherish them. Even the rights to burn the flag. I’m proud of those rights. . .” ~Johnny Cash

“. . .but I tell you what. (Shh, let me tell you something) We’ve also got a right to bear arms and if you burn my flag, I’ll shoot ya. (Pause) But I’ll shoot you with a lot of love like a good American.”

[photogallerylink id=77339 align=right]“American girls and American guys, will always stand up and salute.
We’ll always recognize, when we see ol’ glory flying,
There’s a lot of men dead,
So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our heads.
[photogallerylink id=66726 align=right]My daddy served in the army where he lost his right eye,
But he flew a flag out in our yard ’til the day that he died.
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me.
To grow up and live happy in the land of the free.”

We would be remiss without including Toby Keith’s “American Soldier.”

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Carrie Underwood[/lastfm] – National Anthem

Nothing is more All-American or star spangled than superstar Carrie Underwood performing the “National Anthem” at the Superbowl. This live performance is from Super Bowl XLIV at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on February 7, 2010. (Final score if you had forgotten: New Orleans Saints 31 – Indianapolis Colts 17)

“These Colors Don’t Run”- [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Van Zant[/lastfm]

[photogallerylink id=79328 align=right]These colors don’t run
I hold ’em dear to my heart
With all of my might
I stand up and fight
For every star and every stripe

Yeah, I’m a proud supporter of the men and the women
Who risk their lives for our cause
Let me tell ya son
We’re still number one

“Dear Uncle Sam” – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Loretta Lynn[/lastfm]

“He proudly wears the colors of the old red, white and blue,
While I wear a heartache, since he left me for you.”

“This Ain’t No Rag – It’s A Flag” – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Charlie Daniels Band[/lastfm]

[pullquote quote=”I felt to give into this political correctness would be to turn my back on the people who lost their lives on 9-11 and on the brave men and women who defend this country. The title of the song is ‘This Ain’t No Rag It’s A Flag,’ and I don’t apologize for a word in it. I’ll let you all decide for yourselves.” credit=”Charlie Daniels”]According to TruthorFiction.com and verified on snopes.com Charlie Daniels was scheduled to appear on the CMT Country Freedom Concert, a benefit for victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11. The organizers of the program, however, told Charlie that he could not perform one of his songs because they felt the lyrics might offend someone. Charlie decided to pull out of the show and released a public letter both explaining his reasons and showing the lyrics to the song titled “This Ain’t No Rag, It’s a Flag.” Read the letter here.

“I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today, ’cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.”

“God Bless The USA” – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lee Greenwood[/lastfm]

“Where The Stars and Stripes and The Eagle Fly” – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Aaron Tippin[/lastfm]

“I pledge allegiance to this flag, and if that bothers you, well that’s too bad. But if you got pride and you’re proud you do, hey, we could use some more like me and you, where the stars and stripes and the eagle fly.”

We couldn’t pass up sharing this video, set to music of “The Star Spangled Banner!” Not sure how many tries it took to build this Lego-like replica of the US Flag. So if you don’t have anything patriotic to do for the 4th of July, go to the toy store and pick up some blocks! We’d love to see your photos! Post them on our Facebook wall!

Nothing is more touching or adorable that kindergartners performing “You’re A Grand Old Flag.”

Or 2nd graders narrating what the flag is all about. . .and performing (props and all) “You’re A Grand Old Flag.”

Watch this very patriotic 8 year old asking, “Dad, can I sing the ‘Grand Old Flag’ now?” She even inserts a dialogue of the Pledge of Allegiance.
