That pesky check engine light is one of the many things in life people usually do not pay much attention to. I am not sure if it is we don’t care, or we just hope and pray it is flashing for no reason. But what does it really mean?
According to the Yahoo specialists and those at CarMD.com, the check engine light usually comes on for very minor issues. But it is when these issues aren’t taken care of, they can lead to larger ones.
The specialists have come to the conclusion, that these few things can help you get rid of the check engine light for good!
One of the first things to check is the oxygen sensor. It is there to regulate just how much fuel is needed for the car to run. If it is malfunctioning, it will use more than needed and you could waste up to 40% of your fuel.
One of the easiest, and of course cheapest fixes, is to check for a loose or cracked gas cap! A new cap should run you up to only $3.
Another easy fix is replacing your spark plugs. And according to the specialists, it can be pretty cheap to fix and, “if not replaced, damaged spark plugs can cause the engine to misfire and lead to expensive catalytic converter problems.”
But if you are always really worried, you can actually buy one of those diagnostic devices that the car places use, and it will only run you $119. But if you keep up on your car, and get it checked out often, you shouldn’t have an issue! There are also a few more tips over at Yahoo.com.
