You would think with tragedies happening around the country all the time, and the American Red Cross always saying we are in a blood shortage, that the blood banks would take just about anyone that is willing to donate.  Aaron Pace was denied of being a donor, not because he was unhealthy, but because of something the blood bank just assumed about him!

First the Army, now the blood banks?  According to Yahoo, when Aaron Pace went to donate blood at Bio-Blood Components Inc., they told him he couldn’t donate because he seemed as if he was gay.  Not that he admitted to being gay, but because they thought he was.

Now, Aaron admits he is effeminate, but says he is not gay, but very upset that they didn’t believe him when he said he was not, and then denied being able to donate!

“It’s not right that homeless people can give blood but homosexuals can’t,” Pace told the paper. “And I’m not even a homosexual.”

The sad part is, there is nothing against the law for their decision.  While it maybe unfair that they just assumed he was, but in 1983, the FDA made it so that no gay men were allowed to donate.  That was only because there was no good way to test blood for HIV.  But since all blood is tested before it goes to hospitals anyway, there should be no reason that everyone could donate blood!

Aaron said that he still cannot figure out what he is more mad about.  The fact they turned him down with no proof, or the fact that just because how someone lives their life makes it OK to turn them away at the blood bank.
