When Askmen.com asked 70,000 men “if they would dump their partner if she gained weight,” how many men do you think answered YES?

The SHOCKING results: Men are more concerned with their partner’s body type than women! But the real shocker may be that men also seem to value family more highly, according to Askmen.com.

Nearly half of men questioned in the poll of 70,000 people said they would ditch a partner who gained weight, compared to only 20 percent of women who said they would do the same!

But the survey also found 39 percent of men chose family as their top choice of the ultimate status symbol. By contrast, 43 percent of women selected a beautiful home.

What is your ultimate status symbol?

While weight gain (or on the other side – extreme loss) is an important concern in many ways, if a person dumps their partner solely because of it, he/she has no business being in any relationship in the first place. Physcial attraction is important, but if a person evaluates their reasons for dating another based on the weight gain of another, he/she isn’t really likely to be interested in the other. There are too many other reasons for evaluating the worthiness of having an inter-personal relationship, but if this is the make-or-break point, the weight-gainer would be much smarter to dump the one with the poor judgement.

On the other hand, the person with a weight issue needs to be reasonably mindful that he/she has a million reasons to do what can be done to keep their weight in check, along with the rest of their health. While this isn’t easy (to say the least, for most people) or in some cases actually not possible, the reality is that one needs to care about his/her own body. If it is medically prohibitive, that is one thing, but not trying to do anything at all, or not caring about weight control could suggest that the person may not really ready to be involved with someone else if they are not involved with themselves.

    It is a two-sided issue.
