If you are between the ages of 18-60 and in good health, please consider helping 11-year-old Joey Caretti of Shelby Twp. who is battling his 3rd round with cancer, first a brain tumor and now he has Leukemia. Joey now needs of a bone marrow transplant, and a ‘match’ in order to make that happen. Please join Joey’s family, at their Bone Marrow Donor Drive next Monday, December 19th at Morgan Elementary, in Shelby Township from 2-8 p.m. A simple swipe of a cotton swab inside of your mouth, along with a quick questionnaire, is all that is needed to complete registry. YOU could be the person who can save Joey’s life! There are other ways you can help if you do not fall into the criteria or age category above too!
Joey Caretti is a very brave 11-year-old boy, who recently battled a very rare brain cancer. He rang the bell on 11-11-11, to symbolize the end of chemo. He and his family were elated. Friends cheered. Then the bubble burst when over the next few weeks Joey got weaker and very tired. Testing and a biopsy show that he now has a second cancer – leukemia. Joey now faces more chemo, and a bone marrow transplant.
Joey Caretti was recently featured on Fox 2 news in Detroit, and we also posted a story here on WYCD asking you to send Joey a ‘Get Well Soon’ card to keep his spirits up while fighting cancer for the third time in the past few years.
You can still send Joey a card by clicking the link above, but now the MOST important thing to is find a “bone marrow match” for Joey and YOU could be one match, and the one who can help save his life!
Two Ways YOU Can Help With Joey’s Bone Marrow Donor Drive:
1) If you are between the Ages of 18-60 and in good health:
Please attend the Bone Marrow Donor Drive on Monday, December 19th at Morgan Elementary, located in Shelby Township, 53800 Mound Road from 2-8 p.m. The suggested donation is $10. A simple swipe of a cotton swab inside of your mouth, along with a quick questionnaire, is all that is needed to complete registry.
2. If you do not meet the age or health requirements and/or wish to give in a different way
Consider a monetary gift, to help defray the costs of donating. Each sample taken costs approximately $100 to process, and you can click HERE to donate and help Joey, his family and others who are also waiting for a bone marrow match to save their life!
Thanks for your help, God bless you and Merry Christmas! Love, Linda Lee
