A previously unreleased early version of the classic “Close Up the Honky Tonks” by Bakersfield, Calif. country legend [mp3com-artist]Buck Owens[/mp3com-artist] is seeing the light of day next month on Record Store Day (April 21).
Recorded in 1964, the song is being released on a seven-inch single (pressed on yellow vinyl, no less!) from Omnivore Recordings and will be sold only in participating Record Store Day outlets. Which means, you won’t find it on Amazon or in big-box retail stores.
The flipside will feature a 1963 version of another Buck Owens classic, “My Heart Skips A Beat.”
Record Store Day is an annual celebration of independent record stores that’s been growing in popularity since it was founded in 2007. It started small but now features releases from some of the biggest labels, and some of music’s most legendary artists.
