It was a weekend to remember for country superstar Jake Owen as he performed at the Mardy’s Tennis and Jake’s Music Fest in his hometown of Vero Beach, FL on April 7. More than Easter was being celebrated as Jake dropped to his knee and proposed to girlfriend Lacey Buchanan during his hit “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You.”
Ending the song with his own edited lyrics of “baby, Lacey, I love…” he trailed off as the crowd screamed in excitement. The screams were even more deafening as Jake dropped to one knee and finished with a heartwarming “…you.”
“I just figured it’s my hometown,” Jake said to the audience as he held Lacey’s hand while on his blue jean knees. “It’s my hometown, these are all my friends and family,” he paused looking back to an excited crowd. Finally ending with a “will you marry me, Lacey Buchanan,” screams drowned out her answer that was an obvious ‘yes’ as Jake and Lacey shared a loving kiss on stage.
He finished with a reference to his own song, continuing with “you’re probably wondering where your ring is? I just said I can’t buy you a big diamond ring or a big old house on the hill. I promise you, I’ll love you forever and ever and ever. “
Lacey and Jake met while on the set of his video “8 Second Ride” in 2009 and she also appeared in his hit video for “Barefoot Blue Jean Night.”
