Boy, things sure have changed since back in the day when I was the ‘neighborhood babysitter!”Babysitting has become the job to have if you can get it! The average hourly rate for child care services is $12.75, nearly twice the U.S. minimum wage of $7.25. And babysitters in the Northeast do even better, earning an average of $15.50 per hour. That is dang good money, and I know parents are wiling to pay a pretty penny to insure that their kids are being well cared for and safe while parents are away form home too!
However, before you quit your day job and launch your own babysitters club, those lucrative hourly rates aren’t necessarily supported by a 40-hour workweek. Most often this is ‘part-time’ work, but if you can land a few different babysitting jobs, you can make it a full time and pretty lucrative job!
What is the going rate in your neighborhood and what are your expectations of the babysitter?
