South Korea’s Shin A Lam is one the the world’s best fencers, and just the other day, she lost her chance at a gold medal! There was a malfunction with the equipment that allowed her opponent to score points at the last minute to take home the victory. She refused to leave her spot for over an hour in protest! What the International Olympic Committee suggested still wasn’t good enough for her!
There was a malfunction with the clock that kept one second on the clock past the time it was supposed to be up there. So, after the clock SHOULD have been on zero, Germany’s Britta Heidemann scored points that shouldn’t exists. And after 45 minutes of protest, the judges still shot down her appeal, and told her she needed to leave. She still refused!
Watch this video as it shows in slow motion, and with timer, that the clock didn’t move when it should have. Now, it is in a different language, but you get the idea:
According to Yahoo, the IOC actually admitted there was an error, and offered her a consolation prize, which she also refused! Why should she accept something when she should be competing for something else? What would you do? Would you take the consolation prize?
