Even though my Dad went to heaven 3 years ago today, I can still hear him telling me, “Do as I say, not as I do!” For my Dad, there was no shame in his game, he did not want his kids to do some of the things he did, like smoke cigarettes. And I know he was bummed when he quit smoking for over 20 years, yet all his kids still smoked. Well guess what folks, kids DO watch what their parents do, like texting while driving…
Are you talking on your phone while driving? Your kids are watching you! In a survey conducted by an insurance company, 91 percent of teenagers report that their parents talk on cell phones while driving, 88 percent say mom and dad speed and 59 percent of teens have seen their parents text while driving.
And teens are paying attention to their role models: 90 percent of teens surveyed admit to talking on cell phones while driving, 94 percent say they speed, and 78 percent say they text behind the wheel.
Do you hold your kids to a different standard in this regard? Why or why not?
