Country superstars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have more than enough hit songs between them to last a lifetime. So when they combine forces, it’s a spectacle to behold.

That, at least, is the opinion of fans and reviewers after the pair debuted their Soul2Soul show in Las Vegas this past weekend.

“Hill and McGraw delivered a high-energy but often intimate show that prompted multiple standing ovations,” writes Jennifer Justus in the Nashville Tennessean.

“High energy” in the sense that they busted through a long list of their hit songs, including “Breathe,” “Live Like You Were Dying,” “The Cowboy in Me,” “One of Those Nights,” “Like We Never Loved At All,” “Piece of My Heart,” and “It’s Your Love.”

The “intimate” portion began early on, with the couple entering through the audience; it then continued later, when they sat down for an on-stage interview. They each spoke about their musical influences during this time (Tammy Wynette, Mavis Staples, Elvis Presley, and Aretha Franklin for Faith; Ted Nugent, Merle Haggard, Charlie Rich, George Jones, The Eagles, and Bruce Springsteen for Tim). But the chat wasn’t all business, as at one point Faith ribbed Tim about not wearing any socks.

After the ‘influences’ chat, Faith sang some Aretha, while Tim launched into the Eagles. “I love doing other people’s music, better than my own,” he said at one point.

The show’s final moment also was of the “intimate” variety, with Tim and Faith sitting in chairs, facing each other, and sharing a single mic during a duet on “I Need You.” As the Las Vegas Sun’s Robin Leach describes it, “they are seconds from a full-throttle makeout session. I hope everybody’s married life is this smokin’.”

Soul2Soul continues through April of 2013 at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas.

Remaining performance dates:

December 14-15
January 18-19, 25-26
February 1-2, 15-16 & 22-23
March 1-2
April 12-13, 26-27
