Kayla Kincannon, a 17 year-old Michigan teenager, has her friends, social media and Taylor Swift to thank for making her dream to meet Taylor come true.

From her home in Madison Heights, Kayla has been battling a brain tumor for over a year, and just when she thought she had won the hard fought battle, more bad news came.  Right before Christmas, another tumor made it’s nasty presence known. Kayla tells FOX News her story as well as her amazement at what her friends had been doing to make this meeting with Taylor Swift happen.

The plight of friends on a mission to give Kayla her wish mirrors their wish that she would get well.

So instead of waiting for Make-A-Wish, Kayla’s classmates at Lamphere High School decided they would take matters into their own hands, to see if they could grab the attention of one very busy Taylor Swift and give Kayla a chance to meet her idol. They gave birth to the Twitter hashtag #OperationGetKaylaToMeetTaylorSwift, and a very determined and internet savvy generation succeeded in getting their cause to trend worldwide.

On January 19th, thanks to a very gracious and humbled Taylor Swift, Kayla’s wish came true. This won’t surprise anyone who knows the charitable Swift. Taylor took home the top spot on DoSomething.org‘s list of Top 20 Celebs Gone Good Of 2012.

Not just any ‘meet and greet’ but a 2 hour lunch:

On the Team Kayla website Kayla’s dad praises Taylor Swift and thanks Kayla’s friends for this unforgettable moment:

“You guys have no idea how awesome this lunch was! This was no quick meet and greet photo opp. We sat and talked to Taylor and her mom for two hours, had lunch and Kayla received a gift basket, then she signed pictures! She is the sweetest, most down to earth person I have ever met! This was more than we ever expected! I’m so thankful to team Kayla, news, and everyone who made her dream come true! This was the best day ever for her and all of us.”

Kayla talks of being huge fan of Taylor Swift “She is such an incredible role model, I really look up to her for who she is and what she represents and her talent.”

All of us at 99.5 WYCD send our get well wishes, thoughts and prayers to Kayla as she remains “Fearless” in her fight!
