The most commonly given reasons for shopping in secret were financial – with many respondents saying they feared an argument over their spending if their spouse discovered their habit.
I personally would rather come clean with my husband, even if I know he will not be happy with me, because I cannot stand the thought of lying. I would be way more upset with my husband if he lied to me, than I would be if he spent money on something I did not feel we could afford, or we really did not need.
