It’s no surprise that Downtown Hoedown performer Craig Morgan is a friend of Michigan’s own Ted Nugent. After all, Morgan has an entire TV show, “All Access” on the Outdoor Channel, dedicated to his love of hunting, fishing, and everything else about the great outdoors.

Morgan said he talked to Michigan’s own Nugent right before Hoedown Saturday, and he asked him to send his regards to the audience.

Has he ever gone shooting with Nugent? “Absolutely,” Morgan said.

And it turns out Morgan has a strong opinion on Hoedown, the largest country music event in Nugent’s Motown hometown. “This is a place that will teach you not to stereotype people,” Morgan said, adding he loves the diversity of the crowd in the Motor City, a place not traditionally associated with country music.

About his own music career, Morgan said, “We’re excited, it’s a lot of fun, it beats having a real job so I won’t complain a bit.”

Well, maybe one small complaint, and it involves Twitter. “We got a freak fan, she Tweets some weird stuff, the stuff she knows she’s doing some serious research. It weirds you out a little bit … (But) nothing terrible, I see the same weird stuff everybody sees.”

The “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” “Almost Home,” and “Redneck Yacht Club” artist has something in common with Joe Nichols — in addition to their appearances at the 2013 Downtown Hoedown. The song “This Ole Boy,” written in part by Rhett Atkins, also appears on Nichols’ 2011 album “It’s all Good.”
