The holidays are always tough, especially the first one after you lose one of your parents. We just lost our Dad, my husbands father, who lived with us on May 3rd this year, so this will be the first Father’s Day on Sunday without “Old Man Young” as our 91 year old dad liked to call himself! I lost my Dad “The Big Indian” back in 2009, but this particular holiday is still hard with him gone too. But I think that all the ‘Dads In Heaven’ would not want their children to be sad, so I think my idea on how to honor their memory is a pretty good one!

Captain Jeff, his Dad, John Young and my Dad, The (2)Instead of being super sad this Father’s Day if your Dad is in Heaven, maybe you should do what my husband and  plan to do in memory of our Dad’s on Sunday!

Dad doing what he LOVED most fishing on his Big InWe are going to go fishing, something we did with both our fathers when they were still here with us. And talk about all the GREAT times we had together! Remembering all the good times we had together and laughing at the stupid things they said and did….like when my Dad nearly sank his boat, for the SECOND time after anchoring it off the back, instead of the front out on Lake Erie!

And Jeff’s Dad, who at age 88, drove from Livonia to Pinckney every single day to ‘work his shift’ from noon-4pm restoring my Dad’s old fishing boat. And complain every day about how he wanted to do some of the ‘fun work’…and just could not understand why my husband would not let him climb a huge ladder and jump into the boat!

My heart goes out to all who have lost their Dad, like we have. But I think our Dad’s would be super happy if we still CELEBRATED their memory by doing something that they enjoyed while they were still here, and talk about HAPPY memories, laugh and enjoy the day in their honor! I know that is what our Dad’s would want us to do! Oh yeah….EAT GOOD too! All the holidays were ‘all about the groceries’….so we will have a nice BBQ dinner and of course DESSERT! they both loved the goodies!!!

Happy Father’s Day to both my Dad’s in Heaven! I miss you both more than words can say, but I know one day I will see you again! Love, Linda Lee
