Thompson Square‘s Keifer and Shawna Thompson were in Nashville yesterday to celebrate their second number one song “If I Didn’t Have You.” The party was even bigger because it was their first number one as writers. Before the party got underway, Keifer and Shawna talked about achieving this big milestone and how special that moment was for them. Shawna Thompson says, “A big goal for us when we moved to town, dreaming this big dream was to be songwriters as well as artists, and for this to be our first one, it’s really exciting. The first one was incredibly exciting and incredibly emotional, and this one as well just because where this song came from, with my dad passing, and everything, that’s how we came up with the idea for this song.” (Keifer) “This is a monumental day for us. This is not something we take lightly, and to have this sort of thing happen is something we dreamt of 17 years ago when we moved to Nashville.”

The other big news at the Thompson Square #1 party was the return of Keifer, who had been on complete vocal rest at the end of May. Keifer said he’s hoping to return to the road soon. Keifer Thompson says, “I had a really bad hemorrhage, and it’s completely healed, the polyp is 70% down, so they don’t want to do surgery now.” (Shawna) “Yes!” (Keifer) “So I just have to relearn how to do a few things, and stop a few bad habits, and we’ll see what happens.”   But I feel good, I feel great. I can do stuff I haven’t been able to do in probably a year.”

Thompson Square has canceled their appearance at this Friday’s Butler County Fair in Iowa. They hope to rejoin Luke Bryan’s “Dirt Road Diaries Tour” when it resumes next month.
