Every year, a few companies STILL don’t get it:  No one wants you to use September 11th as a promotional opportunity.  Yesterday, AT&T tweeted a 9/11 tribute featuring one of their phones… Pretzel Crisps photographed their bags in the shape of an American flag… and a Marriott generously offered a half hour of free mini muffins in honor of 9/11 victims.

Below are some examples of these fine 9/11 marketing gaffes.

AT&T tweeted a photo showing someone holding up a smart phone against the New York skyline, with two towers of light on the phone’s screen, in place of the World Trade Center.  They captioned it “Never Forget.”

Pretzel Crisps put a photo on Instagram showing bags of red and blue Pretzel Crisps forming an American flag, with the caption, quote, “United We Stand.  One Nation.  #Remember911.”  Who follows Pretzel Crisps on Instagram anyway?

But the best was a photo showing a sign in the lobby of a Marriott hotel.  Quote:  “In remembrance of those we lost on 9/11, the hotel will provide complimentary coffee and mini muffins from 8:45 to 9:15 A.M.”

And finally, the most absurd tribute came from a horse grooming company in Long Island, New York called Natasha’s Equine Clipping Spa.  They posted a photo of a horse . . . with the New York skyline SHAVED onto its body.
