Kacey Musgraves‘ new single, “Follow Your Arrow,” has people talking, and so far, Kacey says it’s been positive. The song has been really striking a chord with parents of young teenage girls, who says they appreciate the positive message in the song.
Kacey says, “I’m just really, really happy that people everywhere are seeming to really love it. I mean, I have parents coming up to me all the time saying, ‘Thank you so much for writing this song. My 13-year-old daughter is singing it, and I couldn’t be more proud of her accepting everyone.’ And with, unfortunately, all the bullying that happens these days, I think it’s just, maybe it could be an anti-bullying anthem.”
Kacey also said, “‘Follow Your Arrow’ means so much to me. I could literally get emotional talking about it because it’s so near and dear to my heart. I wrote it with two friends of mine – Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. It started off as a poem, honestly, for this friend who was going off to Paris for four months studying and she was leaving everything she knew behind, going to a foreign country [and] didn’t know the language. I gave her this little arrow necklace and I wrote a little poem and it had ‘follow your arrow’ in it, ‘kiss lots of boys,’ and it kind of started there, but it turned into a bigger idea.”
