Due to recent comments in the January issue of GQ Magazine, Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty has been suspended indefinitely from the show.

A rep for A&E network released a statement Wednesday night that explains the reasoning behind dropping one of the most dynamic characters on the show. “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series ‘Duck Dynasty’,” the rep comments before continuing “his personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.”

In order to alleviate the bad image for the network, executives have decided to suspend Robertson from the show indefinitely. The rest of the family will still appear as scheduled.

While A&E admits they received no complaints about the comments, it was GLAAD who condemned the article. “What’s clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike,” comments GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz, continuing that his removal “has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value.”

A&E says that Robertson may still appear in some pretaped segments during the show’s next season but will not be in any future tapings.
