After appearing on the GRAMMY Awards Sunday night (Jan. 26), where they performed on stage together (along with Blake Shelton), country legends Willie NelsonMerle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson are now reportedly moving ahead with a collaborative recording project.

“We’re working on one now,” Nelson told Billboard, adding that they’ll release it “as soon as we get it together.”

Such a recording project would be a first for the three country legends, who are all members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Haggard has hinted before that an idea of doing something together has already been in the works between the three of them. In a 2010 interview with Rolling Stone he even gave the proposed trio a name, the Musketeers — “You know, because there’s the three of us,” he said. “We’ll come up with some little way of describing ourselves I guess and put it together into a show.”

Nelson and Kristofferson have performed together before as members of The Highwaymen, an ’80s/’90s country supergroup that also featured the late Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. Nelson and Haggard have released music together as well, including the 1983 album Pancho & Lefty. The title track of that album, written by the late Townes Van Zandt, turned into a No. 1 hit for the pair.

During the GRAMMYs, Nelson and Kristofferson appeared first to perform “Highwayman,” that group’s signature song, written by Jimmy Webb and a No. 1 hit in 1985. Haggard and Shelton then took the stage to sing Haggard’s classic song “Okie from Muskogee,” before the whole quartet chimed in together on Nelson’s song  ”Mamma’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” — the latter of which had what seemed like half the Staples Center dancing and singing along.
