WYCD Hoedown 2018 ANNOUNCED: Dierks Is Coming! Details | LineupTickets | 2017 Recap

By Steve Wiseman

Fans lined up early in downtown Royal Oak to see Jerrod Niemann, Lindsay Ell, Dan + Shay, Will Hoge, Tyler Farr, Darius Rucker, David Nail, Thomas Rhett, Cole Swindell and American Young at the 99.5 WYCD Ten Man Jam.

The cold didn’t bother the fans who lined up early, because the heat was turned up quickly with Jerrod Niemann leading the first act on stage. It all started with a swig on Jack Daniels from the “Drink To That All Night” singer.

Ten Man Jam: Jerrod Niemann Reveals He’s Too Nice For ‘American Idol’

Before he took the stage Jerrod revealed to us that he would be too nice for a show like American Idol, saying “music is all about your opinion, there really is no right and wrong, so for me I just don’t feel like I’m the guy who tells someone that what they’ve spent a lot of time on and worked hard for, sucks.”

Fans were wowed with new music from Dan + Shay and none of the acts wanted to follow up Lindsay Ell’s amazing guitar playing.

Act Two begin with recent GRAMMY winner, Darius Rucker, who before his set described himself as a “big dork.” The Jack Daniels was replaced with Jim Bean as David Nail, Thomas Rhett, Cole Swindell, and American Young joined the “Wagon Wheel” singer on stage.

Cole Swindell continued the alcohol theme, by performing “Brought to You By Beer.” He also helped out Thomas Rhett on “Get Me Some of That,” which Cole wrote.

David Nail, who currently has a platinum selling single and is on the road touring with legendary Darius Rucker, told us backstage about his tour habits with Darius.

American Young commanded the crowd during the performance of “Love Is War,” having everyone raise their cellphones up during the performance. It created a beautiful sea of lights through out the Royal Oak Music Theatre.

Darius Rucker lead the group in one final song of the evening, explaining to the crowd first that he sang this song back in 1986 with “Hootie and the Blow Fish.” The rag tag group of singers performed a very heart felt version of “Family Tradition.”
