"I'm so proud to be here representing country music."

By Kurt Wolff

This past Saturday (May 3), Kacey Musgraves made history, by becoming the first country artist to perform at the 25th annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Dressed elegantly in a snazzy hot-pink dress, Musgraves took the stage with her band to perform her recent single “Follow Your Arrow.”

“I’m so proud to be here representing country music,” the GRAMMY- and ACM Award-winning artist said from the stage. “And I just want to ‘cheers’ everybody in this room that ‘follows their arrow.'” Watch her performance below:

“Follow Your Arrow” is a song of celebration and joy, but it’s also a song of courage, as it alludes to subjects not normally discussed (at least openly) in country music songs or circles (e.g., loving “who you love”). Perhaps that’s why, no matter how many times you’ve heard “Follow Your Arrow,” watching Musgraves sing it at in front of the GLAAD crowd carries more emotional than usual.

Needless to say, she earned a standing ovation from the crowd.
