We know that Tim McGraw will release his new album, “Sundown Heaven Town,” on September 16th. We know it will feature his latest single, “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s.” But is there a theme? Tim won’t say exactly, but he admits that anytime he dives into recording an album that there’s always a certain message or sound that seems to make itself known.

“What I go into it with is sort of a set of sounds in my head,” he explains. “They’re not even clear because I’m not a real musician, but I have these sort of thoughts about how I wanna a guitar to sound, or how I wanna piano to sound or how I want a synth to sound.”

Tim goes on to say that those sounds influence his song choices – explaining that it’s not a “black and white” process either. “Sometimes you find a song that you love and you think, ‘well I can find some of these sounds that will fit it,’ or you find a song that you love and I can come up with sounds that’ll fit it.” But the nicest surprise? Tim says once the album is finished it’s sometimes interesting to look at the songs he chose and realize there is a common theme – even when he didn’t plan one at all.
