Bad news for Garth Brooks’ fans in Ireland. The country mega star had five concerts planned, and sold, for his comeback tour in Croke Park. It was announced today by Aiken Promotions that all five shows were cancelled. “We are very disappointed for the 400,000 fans who purchased tickets for The Garth Brooks Comeback Special Event,” Aiken Promotions said in their online announcement. reported that promoter Peter Aiken flew out to Tulsa to try and save the concerts.

It is not just the 400,000 fans that are being effected by the show cancellations, it is also the local economy. “The cancellation of all five concerts in July will tarnish the image of Ireland as a tourist destination to overseas visitors, and disrupts the travel plans of thousands of concert-goers who have already booked flights, hotels and tours” said Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI).

He added that “Hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions throughout Ireland will all suffer because of the lack of streamlining between industry and governmental bodies.”

The RAI estimated that the five concerts would have generated up to €50m in revenue for the state.
