It was a huge hillbilly sleepover for the second annual Faster Horses Festival. Country music fans descended on the grounds of Michigan International Speedway for 3 days of music with Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, and Miranda Lambert headlining the festival.

The party unofficially kicked off on Thursday afternoon, as campers arrived early to secure their campsites for what was a beautiful July weekend in Brooklyn, Michigan. Campsites were customized with full bars, decorations, and drinking games. Faster Horses founder Brian O’Connell said they “want people to have a sense of community” when they came to Faster Horses and that was truly evident this year.

The festival grounds saw many improvements over year one including a Craft Beer Tent, beach volley, a wiffle ball tournament, and the main stage which dwarfed last year’s stage.

Friday featured performances from Maggie Rose, Austin Webb, Dan + Shay, Jana Kramer, Cassadee Pope, Kip Moore, and Tim McGraw closed out the evening.

Saturday started with some country nostalgia as Joe Diffie came out for his set. The second year had more of a mix of artists, which provided a broader appeal to attendants. The action picked up as Chase Rice electrified the crowd.

On the Next From Nashville stage, Sam Hunt drew the biggest crowd of the weekend with his performance. The majority of the weekend, it just saw a handful of people in the crowd. Brian O’Connell told the Detroit News “he needs to figure out a way to get more fans to that stage.” This year, the second stage was moved under a tent in the hopes that festival goers would listen to performances while they escaped the sun.

Brett Eldredge and Darius Rucker got the stage ready for a guitar heavy night with Keith Urban. If there was a spot for a guitar solo, he took it and the fans loved every second of it. During his set Keith donned a red head bandanna and told the crowd he “looked like Willie.”

After two days of drinking and country music, Sunday morning got off to a slow start. Chris Stapleton and Ashley Monroe showcased their more traditional style of country music. Miranda Lambert surprised the early birds, by coming out and performing a song with Ashley.

The crowd began to wake up with performances from Charlie Worsham and Parmalee. By the time Cole Swindell hit the stage, the party was back in full swing.

Little Big Town fed off the crowds energy with singalongs of their hits. Day Drinkin’ was one of the many theme songs for the entire weekend. Miranda Lambert kicked off her performance with the music video Something Bad with Carrie Underwood. She sported a shorter hair cut and owned the stage, while flames danced on the screen behind her. She was joined on stage by the day’s earlier performers.

As Miranda said goodbye to the crowd, bringing Faster Horses to a close, fireworks took over the sky behind the stage. It was a perfect send off for an amazing weekend of country music.

Fans are already making plans for the 2015 Faster Horses Festival and they should be. This festival is here to stay and it should be part of your summer plans.
