Going on vacation is supposed to be fun! The anticipation of an upcoming trip, having something to look forward to while working your butt off is another good thing about an upcoming vacation. But then there’s the upcoming vacation ‘stress factor‘ that sets in. Looking good in a swimsuit is women’s main vacation stress – with one in 10 panicking about their body image more than four months before a trip.
The truth is that VERY FEW women look like these ladies in a bikini or bathing suit. So don’t stress about it. I loved and now follow a friend’s advice about feeling good on the beach or at the pool on vacation. She said “sit next to someone who is bigger or flabbier that you are, and then you feel like hot stuff regardless of your size!”
Other stress factors include all the work that needs to be done, making sure that all your ‘work stuff’ is in order before you leave. And managing the house stuff, like arranging for someone to mow the grass or take out the trash, etc. And if you have kids, you can add a bazillion other things to the ‘to-do list’ before you actually leave!
There is also the ‘money factor’….making sure you budget for all the unexpected expenses that occur while on vacation. Everything is so much more expensive when traveling, even food when you are unfamiliar with the area you are vacationing at and if and where there are any bargains even available! Most often, everything is super expensive, so you need to plan and budget accordingly.
Summer may be the time we look forward to the most, but it seems it’s also the biggest cause of stress. One in six women start calorie counting once Christmas is over, and 10 percent cut down on fatty foods once Easter is out of the way. And those men wearing Speedos? No, they don’t care about their body image!
What stresses you out the most before going on vacation?
