It sure is expensive to send the kids back to school these days, in fact parents will fork out $8.4 billion on back-to-school electronics alone this year. Everything included, the National Retail Federation says that total back-to-school spending will cost parents $26.5 billion .How do you draw a line with your kids on the spending when they want designer clothes and brand name kicks?

Clothes still make up the biggest share of back-to-school shopping.
More than one-third of parents say at least 50% of their back-to-school purchases are influenced by their kids. Nearly 10% of parents say they buy exactly what their kids want.

My parents had 9 kids, so we got the basics every year for back to school, new shoes and clothes and notebooks and pencils. I know for a fact that it took 2 whole paychecks from Ford Motor Co. for my Dad to buy just that stuff every year. When we became teens and asked for ‘special expensive’ clothes and shoes, he told us he would give us the money he planned to spend and we wanted to earn and use our own money for expensive stuff, have at it!

When do you give in to buying the exact items your children want and when do you pick something less expensive than what they are wishing for?
