Almost Home No-Kill Shelter is having a very special adoption event called “Love Is Blind” at Pet Supplies Plus in Royal Oak (Woodward and 12 Mile) this Saturday April 18th from noon-4pm! Can you find room in your loving home for a SPECIAL dog with ‘special needs?’
“Love is Blind” will be showcasing their “special needs” animals – animals that are senior, overweight, have medical or behavior issues, or are long-term residents of the shelter.
Most of the dogs have a similar story- they came in as a stray off of the streets – cold, alone and hungry. Some were surrendered by families that were moving and could not take their dog with them – leaving their family pet in a shelter full of barking dogs, confused, sad and alone. Some come in injured – and Almost Home not only takes care of their emergency vetting, but provides them with food and water, shelter and love until their forever homes are found. Almost Home is a place where they can feel safe and be safe until they go to their new home….but it is still a shelter and these dogs deserve to be in a loving, forever home….to be part of a family.
Chyna was found tied to a fence. She was surrounded by children hitting her and poking her with sticks. Almost Home welcomed her with open arms. That was more than 3 years ago……Chyna still sits in her kennel, day after day, just waiting for someone to walk by, fall in love with her and choose her as the one they want to take home.
Lucy is an 11-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer. She was surrendered to the Shelter when her owner had to move into assisted living and could no longer take care of her. Lucy is an older gal and deserves to live out her golden years in a calm and loving home.
And then there is Franky. He came to us as a stray after somebody did the unthinkable – they filed down his teeth stripping him of his main defense mechanism. Who would do such a thing? Franky is such a special boy, so sweet and loving, and we are excited to be able to give him a second chance at his happily ever after.
Almost Home’s “Love Is Blind” adoption event on April 18th at Pet Supplies Plus in Royal Oak is going to position these dogs, along with others that have been overlooked, front and center. Hopefully all of them will leave the event with a loving family, starting their next great chapter in life!
