August 30th marks the first wedding anniversary for Canaan Smith and his wife Christy, and the two are already thinking about starting a family. But before they do, the couple would love to settle in a Nashville neighborhood that’s similar to the Williamsburg, Virginia community where Canaan was raised.
Canaan Smith says his hometown of Williamsburg was a great place for children. “A lot of friends, the community was cool. When I think back on starting a family, I think that would be an ideal place. You know at least a town that sort of is the same community that Williamsburg was. That was an ideal place to have kids. So, maybe we’ll find a part of Nashville that will do the same thing.”
Canaan Smith is this close to charting his first Number One hit with his gold-certified single, “Love You Like That.” Canaan says the song, which he co-wrote, is another way for a manly man to say “I love you” to his lady.
He tells us: “I think ‘Love You Like That’ is just a perfect example of how a man’s man can still say I love you without sounding like a girly girl. So I think – I think the country guys out there, they’re not shying away from singing this song because it’s kind of just like every day dude, just part of our everyday lives is finding the love of your life and that’s a good thing to hold on to. When you find it let them know how long you’re going to love them, long as till the sun comes back and even longer than that, slow as the Mississippi, strong as whiskey. Be proud of that love. Be proud of what you’ve got. And I think people are staking their claim and saying that’s who I am. I can relate to that. Saluting love you like that.”
“Love You Like That” is the debut single from Canaan’s new debut album, Bronco, which is in stores now.
