By Jason the 200 lb. Cowboy

Today is the day the new April Millsap Memorial Garden opens in Armada and it has been a labor of love since the tragedy that took April Millsap back in July of 2014. On July 24th, April was found murdered on the bike trail near her house. 33 year old James VanCallis has been charged and will stand trial for April’s murder.

There was an outpouring of love and support from the small Armada community to April’s mom, Jennifer after the tragedy. That love and support is shown with the beautiful brand new garden in April’s honor. The garden is located adjacent to the Armada Grain Company at the intersection of Fulton and Depot Streets at 73180 Fulton Street.

The Millsap family are huge listeners to WYCD and The Dr. Don Show with Rachael and Grunwald, so the family asked and Rachael Hunter and Jason the 200lb. Cowboy represented the show and planted 2 hibiscus plants in April’s memory. Rachael says, ” When Jason and I arrived at the site of the April Millsap Memorial Garden, I was blown away by how much more it is than what I had expected. It’s not just a garden, it’s a park, a place where people can sit and enjoy nature. I’m honored that we (WYCD) were given a space to plant flowers to memorialize April. I look forward to watching the hibiscuses grow.”
