Like most states, Michigan has an abundance of esteemed colleges and universities.

Though people will go to the grave defending their alma mater, the fact is some schools are just better than others.

To help quell the debate, Niche released a 2016 ranking of the best schools in the America – providing lists at the national and state level.

“The 2016 Best Colleges ranking calculates millions of statistics and student reviews into one overall college ranking. The top ranked colleges are elite academic institutions that provide a good value, attract a diverse student body, and offer an exceptional college experience.”

The rankings analyzed 1,164 schools using 10 factors: academics, value, professors, student surveys on overall experience, diversity, student life, athletics, campus quality, local area and safety.
