On this day in Country History….


(1949) Hank Williams records the songs “Honky Tonk Blues”, You’re Gonna Change (Or I’m Gonna Leave)” and “Lost Highway”. At Nashville’s Castle Recording Studio.

(1954)Janis Oliver is born in Torrance, CA. She and her sister Kristine form Sweethearts Of The Rodeo, who rose to prominence in the 1980’s. It’s at this time she marries Vince Gill and changes her name.

(1957) – At the Methodist Television, Radio and Film Commission in Nashville. The Everly Brothers first record their hit song “Bye Bye Love”.

(1968)Johnny Cash and June Carter marry at the Methodist Church in Franklin, KT. With this, Carlene Carter‘s allowance jumps from $1 per week to $10.

(1980)Waylon Jennings hit’s #1 on the Billboard Country Chart with his song “I Ain’t Living Long Like This”.

(1994) – During the 36th annual Grammy Awards. “Passionate Kisses” wins twice. Once for Best Country Song, and the other for Best Country Female Performance.

(2005)Alan Jackson‘s “It’s 5-o-Clock Somewhere” becomes certified gold.

(2010) – Carrie Underwood guest stars on the sitcom “How I Met Your Mother”.

(2014)Cole Swindell‘s “Chillin’ It” hits #1 on the Billboard Country Singles Chart.
