Last night was a very special night out at The Fillmore. WYCD is a proud sponsor of ‘Jammin for Joseph’ a benefit concert for Team Joseph. This non-profit organization was started by a mom who’s son, Joseph, was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This Michigan mom is on a mission to aggressively fund cutting edge research to find a treatment or cure for DMD which effects young boys.

When I first got to the venue there was all kinds of things going on. ‘Jamie for Joseph’ was an all ages show so there was a nice mix of kids and adults. Face painting, photo booths, great food, cocktails at the bar, and most importantly tons of information about Team Joseph and Duchenne.

It was a packed house and everybody was ready to have a good time. First up on stage was Cassadee Pope! Her voice was something special. That was my first time seeing her. Old Dominion took the stage next and really energized the crowd. Everybody loved when they sang their big song Break Up With Him. At one point the lead singer Matthew jumped into the crowd and performed! I was standing backstage right before Canaan Smith was getting ready to perform. I caught this cool video of Canaan doing his sneak approach to the stage which was so fun to see. Check out a little of each performance from Jammin for Joseph.

The best part of my night was meeting Joseph. I saw him in the lobby hanging out with his friends eating m&m’s and laughing so I walked up and introduced myself. Such a charming sweet boy who had this infectious spirit about him. You wouldn’t know the odds were against him. Joseph is a big Lions football fan so we talked football and the Lions current gloomy situation. We agreed that they need some big changes! It was a pleasure to meet Joseph and he’s forever in my heart.

Thanks for all your support Detroit and if you’re looking for a non-profit to support, please remember Team Joseph and their fight to find a cure for Duchenne.
