Charlie Daniels, Randy Travis and Fred Foster have been tapped the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame. The trio will be inducted into the 2016 class at a Medallion ceremony to be held later this year.

Charlie Daniels, who is being inducted in the “Veterans Era Artist” category, was shocked to hear the news of his induction. “There’s no way to work towards this goal,” he said. “I can’t think of a bigger honor to be given to anybody who loves country music. This is the cherry on top of the icing.”

Randy Travis, who will be inducted in the “Modern Era Artist” category, received a standing ovation when his name was announced. Still recovering from a stroke, he was able to say “thank you” to the crowd, before his wife Mary Davis Travis spoke on his behalf. “He lived and he loved the songs that he wrote and the songs that he sang,” she said. “He’s a man of great courage. He’s kind, he’s gentle and he has God given talents…He’s honored beyond words to join the Hall of Fame.”

Fred Foster, who championed the careers of artists like Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton, will be inducted into the “Non-Performer” category. “To say that I thought this day would never come would be an understatement,” Foster shared.  “I’ve always been a big dreamer but this is too big. You wouldn’t dream this unless you were crazy. I’m honored beyond belief.”

These three inductees join WYCD’s Program Director, Tim Roberts in the 2016 class. Earlier this year, Roberts was inducted to the radio broadcast wing of the Hall of Fame. Luke Bryan was the one to induct Roberts.

Our congratulations to everyone!
