On This Day In Country Music History:

1957 – Grammy Award Winner & Country Music Hall of Famer, Vince Gill, is born in Norman, Oklahoma.

1961Marty Robbins‘ “El Paso” win the Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Performance.

1972- Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium holds the first ever Fan Fair.

1980 – The remake of Hank Williams‘ “Honky Tonk Blues” by Charley Pride, hits #1 on the Billboard Country Chart.

1982Easton Corbin is born in Trenton, Florida. Later going on to record hit songs such as “A Little More Country Than That”, “Roll With It” & “All Over The Road”.

1989Garth Brooks releases his self-titled debut album on the Capitol Record label.

1993Tim McGraw releases his self-titled debut album on the Curb Record label.

1997Travis Tritt is married to model Theresa Nelson in Paulding County, Georgia. Marty Stuart served as best man. Also attending were Lari White, Tanya Tucker, Connie Smith and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

2000 – “Whiskey Lullaby” is written by Bill Anderson and John Randall.

2010 – As the Pulitzer Prize winners were being announced. Hank Williams is acknowledged for his “craftmanship as a songwriter”.

2014Taylor Swift makes a surprise appearance during Seth Rogan’s “Saturday Night Live” opening monologue. Saying, “You’re getting really upset. And whenever a man shows emotion, I appear!”.
