1952Sam Bush, Mandolin player for New Grass Revival, is born in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

1959George Jones scores his first career #1 hit “White Lightning

1963Bill Andersons‘ “Still”, soars to #1 on the Billboard country chart.

1965Roger Miller picks up 5 awards at the seventh annual Grammy Awards (Best New Song & Western Artist; Country & Western Album; Country & Western Single; Song of the Year and Male Vocalist Of The Year).

1970 – At the fifth annual Academy of Country & Western Music Awards. Bettie Azevedo is awarded 5 trophies on behalf of Merle Haggard (Single Record; Song & Album Of The Year; Top Male Vocalist; Top Touring Band).

1996Lonestar sits atop the Billboard country chart for the first time with the song “No News”.

2003 – P.O.W. Patrick Miller is rescued in Iraq after being held captive for weeks. The secret? He sang Toby Keith’s Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)” over and over! Annoying the enemy.

2005Willie Nelson declines a Texas senators proposal to have a toll road named after him. Willie told The Austin American-Statesman, “I’d put my name on an electric chair, too, but I don’t think that’d be too great a thing”.

2009Taylor Swift’sYou Belong To Me” is released to radio.

2012Jana Kramer makes her Opry debut singing, “Why You Wanna”.

2013Jason Aldean kicks off a slew of stadium shows at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. Featured that night were surprise appearances by Luke Bryan, Jake Owen, Thomas Rhett and Ludacris.
