“Done It All,” an authorized biopic based on the life and career of country icon Merle Haggard is currently in development. According to Deadline, “Hag” approved the film before he died, April 6, 2016.

The film will follow Haggard’s rise from poverty to stardom, boxcar to Hall of Fame, prison to fandom, and is based on a story by “Cinderella Man” co-scriptwriter,  Cliff Hollingsworth.

The cast has not been revealed, but the film will cover Haggard’s big break with the help of country star Wynn Stewart, who gave Haggard the track “Sing A Sad Song” that launched his career in 1963.

Haggard’s impact is far-reaching and will not be forgotten. In a recent tribute to the legend,  Tom Waits wrote in Rolling Stone, “When I was a teenager I was listening to songs like they were books and studied them to learn how to write songs of my own. Who ever thought that something great could come out of Bakersfield? It made me feel a whole lot better about living in a place called National City.”

Waits added that Merle took “lives of common ordinary folks who we had all stopped seeing and put them in songs and gave them a voice, and kept them alive” and his songs were “lived in, broke in and filled with longing – his last name will always be an adjective. Merle’s songs are train-like… lonesome, well made and hard as hell. May they always keep moving.”
