Dierks Bentley keeps his live shows exciting by incorporating things like crowd surfing and running through the audience at various points in the performance. Despite the inherit dangers for any artist who allows himself to be passed over the heads of his fans, Dierks tells us it’s a way to get physically close to the fans and break down the barriers that distance them at concerts.

He explains: “I think there’s a connection between country artists and their fans. I feel pretty safe with them, and there’s an art to jumping off stage in a way where you know you’re gonna be caught. You know, you’ve got to kind of set it up. You can’t surprise them, but when you do they take good care of you. They pass you around a little bit and then one of my guys will come running out at some point and pull me back up on stage, and also, the last three, four years I’ve been pulling someone up on stage everynight to shotgun a beer. I don’t know . . . It’s kind of stupid but it’s just fun and it’s a way to ‘I’m gonna go out there, you’re gonna come up here, we’re gonna try to get rid of this wall between us as much as we possibly can and make this huge place feel as small as possible.”

Dierks will probably show off his crowd surfing skills when he takes his Somewhere On A Beach tour to Dallas and The Woodlands, Texas on Saturday (August 20th) and Sunday (August 21st).
