You go girl, all the way to the bank!
The news journalist, Gretchen Carlson, was rewarded $20 million dollars according to a new report by Vanity Fair for her lawsuit against her former boss, Roger Ailes. This comes just two months after the former Fox news anchor sued her old boss for sexual harassment.
After Gretchen accused Fox CEO, Roger Ailes of sexual harassment, several other women stepped forward with similar claims. In her lawsuit, the 50-year-old exposed several incidents when her boss acted inappropriate during the time they worked together, including one instance when he told her, ‘I think you and I should have had a sexual relationship a long time ago and then you’d be good and better and I’d be good and better.’
Gretchen had this to say about her settlement.
“I am gratified that 21st Century Fox took decisive action after I filed my Complaint,” Gretchen said in her own statement. “I’m ready to move on to the next chapter of my life in which I will redouble my efforts to empower women in the workplace. I want to thank all the brave women who came forward to tell their stories and the many people across the country who embraced and supported me in their #StandWithGretchen. All women deserve a dignified and respectful workplace in which talent, hard work and loyalty are recognized, revered and rewarded.”
we know that two other women also reached settlements with the company. Roger has continuously denied Gretchen’s shocking claims, however, he stepped down from his position as CEO on July 21.
Fox released this statement today:
“We sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect that she and all our colleagues deserve,” Fox News said in a statement on Sept. 6, after awarding Gretchen $20 million.
Congratulations to Gretchen for speaking up and being brave. So many women and men deal with sexual harassment everyday but often remain silent. Maybe she will encourage others to do the right thing.
