While fashions, friendships, and some S.O’s come and go, our zodiac signs are forever.

Or so we thought…

Since we believed that like our birthdays, the stars in the sky are permanent. But apparently NASA has other ideas and earlier this year they quietly announced that they’re changing the whole thing. Now there are new dates for each zodiac sign and a whole new sign has been added!

So why change things now? Well, the brilliant minds at NASA say the Earth is a little different now than it was way back when the Babylonians came up with the zodiac as we knew and loved it. According to the NASA explanation, “Now, 3,000 years later, the sky has shifted because Earth’s axis (North Pole) doesn’t point in quite the same direction.”

See, the Babylonians wanted to make their 12 zodiac signs line up with the 12 months on a calendar, so they totally ignored a 13th constellation. But NASA is setting the record straight. Now if you were born between November 29th and December 17th, your sign is Ophiuchus and your traits are being envied by your peers and a desire to seek knowledge.

But before you get all upset over having to read a new horoscope for life insights, you should know that not everyone agrees with these changes. According to the Astrotwins, your star sign hasn’t changed at all. They remind us that astronomy and astrology aren’t the same, and say that just because the constellations have shifted doesn’t mean our horoscopes aren’t accurate anymore.

The Astrotwins agree that the constellations have moved over time but explain that Western astrology follows a different system that uses “artificial” constellations, so even though the stars are moving, the zodiac signs stay the same. But when there’s change, there are always skeptics. So hardcore horoscope followers will have to decide for themselves if they embrace this change.

Here are the new dates for each sign, if you want to believe them:

  • Aries: April 18 – May 13
  • Taurus: May 13 – June 21
  • Gemini: June 21 – July 20
  • Cancer: July 20 – Aug 10
  • Leo: Aug 10 – Sept 16
  • Virgo: Sept 16 – Oct 30
  • Libra: Oct 30 – Nov 23
  • Scorpio: Nov 23 – Nov 29
  • Ophiuchus: Nov 29 – Dec 17
  • Sagittarius: Dec 17 – Jan 20
  • Capricorn: Jan 20 – Feb 16
  • Aquarius: Feb 16 – March 11
  • Pisces: March 11 – April 18
