Once upon a time, Mandy Moore was on the road with her band, and an inside joke spiraled a little out of control. So much so, in fact, that she got the memory permanently tattooed on her ankle.

Recently, the This is Us star shared a photo of the ink on her Instagram, which sparked questions from fans…because it’s of sperm.

On Monday, Moore stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers, and explained the odd tat.

“Well, about 10 years ago, I was on tour with my band,” Moore explained. “I had my own room to shower in … all of the guys in my band shared a day room. Their one rule was nobody was allowed to do … that ‘thing’ in the shower.”

“It became this big joke, because one of my band members was like, ‘I don’t want babies on my feet.’ And so we created a song called ‘Babies on My Feet’ that we sang on stage every night,” she continued. “No one had any idea what we were talking about.”

Guess it was one of those ‘You had to be there’ situations!
