Billy Bush may have to kiss his “Today” show job goodbye. As we told you yesterday, NBC News is said to be looking into terminating himfor violating the morality clause in his contract.

A network insider said, “Billy is technically fired. It’s just a matter of time. NBC isn’t ready to announce it yet. They are negotiating his exit.” The reason? Another source said, “NBC was burned by the Ann Currydebacle and they are trying to figure out how to do this.”

But if the network DOES let Bush go, sources say that he’s not going without a fight. He allegedly blames NBC for leaking the tape to “The Washington Post,” and is considering a lawsuit.

  • Either way, Bush – who retreated to California in the wake of the scandal – has been looking into hiring his own Olivia Pope-type fixer to get out of his PR crisis. Another source said, “He’s sad. It’s crazy. [His] career is radioactive – no one will touch it. He’s done. He cannot recover from this.”

  • Brooke Burke-Charvet is one of the few people speaking out in Billy’s defense. The actress and TV host said, “I have great sympathy for Billy because I’ve had to wear a microphone for 12 hours a day on shows. You go to the bathroom and you are mic’d. So, kind of in his defense, there is a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes. Quite honestly, sometimes you’re trying to just roll through a conversation without any commitments to it.” She added, “I don’t think America probably understands that there are a lot of inappropriate conversations that happen all the time.”
  • While some people are shocked that Billy would be caught in such a lewd conversation, one woman isn’t surprised at all. Katherine Fredland Richardson rode the bus with Billy in New York City when they were kids, and she said he was a jerk and a bully. She said, “He was the kind of kid who could smell…weakness — and he would zero in,” making fun of her clothes, calling her unattractive and nerdy. When she finally stood up for herself, he said, “Do you know who my uncle is?” At that time, his uncle was Vice President George HW Bush. His cousin is President George W. Bush.
